Fiber Arts Friday - Evanstar of Wonder

Welcome to Fiber Arts Friday.  This is the first Friday of 2013 and I'm hoping that there is plenty to share.  Having a long weekend, I was able to cast on a project and almost make it to the 50% mark.  I am currently knitting the Evanstar Mittens.

Last week with the New Year's snow, I realized that I didn't have any mittens to match my newest jacket.  I had to reach for the dreaded Isotoner gloves.  They work perfectly fine but I am so spoiled with my hand knitted fingerless mitts that I decided that I needed a pair of mittens or gloves that I would knit.

Now...not wanting to be overly ambitious, I decided mittens would be suited to the ears at home on winter vacation because I feared making eight fingers and two thumbs would create much cursing from my mouth ;-)

As I was perusing patterns on Ravelry, my friend Val mentioned that she was going to knit the Evanstar Glove pattern in yarn that she had purchased from me as mittens.  Squeals of delight erupted as I realized that was a most excellent choice for me too.  (I always squeal with delight when I see yarn I created being turned into a finished project by someone else) So she being half the country away from cast on in my blue while I cast on in my orange.

By New Year's Day, she had finished her first mitten and I'm still working on getting to the decrease. My goal is to complete the right hand this weekend and cast on the left.  Seriously, who needs to clean the house on the weekend, especially when there is gorgeous cabled mittens to knit.  Now, share your adventures in Fiber Arts!  I look forward to the projects you will be for 2013.

  1. Don't need mittens in the heat wave we're having in this part of the world at the moment. 42°C tomorrow.

  3. I love both of those projects! The orange, makes me sigh, as you already know and the Evenstar mittens are so cabley. Almost makes me swoon. I'm tempted by the mittens, really I am. Perhaps the combination of orange and the mitten pattern would be a great one. But I must finish one cowl and crochet another before any mittens can be considered. Nice work Andrea and please pass along my compliments to Val.

  8. I love mittens but have never attempted to knit them.

I have decided to knit my stash for a while and this seems like a good way to start.

The orange is just amazing! Perfect way to wake up this morning.

  21. Yeah, let Grumpy and the Bears clean the house - you get going on those wonderfully orange cabled mittens. That's a plan I can cozy up to in the new year. :)
